Home » Industrial Lighting

Industrial Lighting that resembles a truly vintage lighting style. These factory lights have distinctive design elements, such as hefty hand-spun rims,  or creases, sometimes straight edges – ultimately a form of continuence, and then nothing of the same. A rigid, vintage-industrial styling that normally comes in just plain “black” featuring a caged metal, or glass component that looks like it could survive a fall a few times.

The appearance of  bunker lights provide a uniquely industrial, yet modern look is one example where the design may be quite different from expectations.

These Industrial Lights have distinctive design elements, such as hefty cage styles, industrial pipe-like designs (sometimes just called “Pipe Lights”), and caged frames that distinguish them from other fixtures.

An integrated “Jelly Jar” or glass dome surrounding the light source as is a cage guard (we’ve got three styles) for additional protection.  A “Modern” styling is one example where the design may be quite different to the original Vapor Proof Models.

We’ve got Atomic Warehouse, Atomic Industrial, Atomic Flared and vintage styled industrial chandeliers that complement classic, old-school décor with impressive art & craftsmanship.

Looking for a more compact unit? our Static Industrial, Static Flared Wall Light and Streamline Industrial Light, Streamline Flared Wall Light were designed for your solution in mind. Four unique manufactured styles with all the bells and whistles are available.

Bunker Lights have historically been called “Explosion Proof Lighting”, originally designed to be “vapour-proof” when used in underground environments or near hazardous vapours.

For the average residential home-owner, you (hopefully!) don’t require any explosion-proof lighting – that said as Industrial Bunker Lights were originally originated from their purpose as sealed “work lights” in challenging environments – You can assured that their installation around water-sources like spas, swimming pools, and highly humid environments are ideal. Whilst we recommend that you check with your electrician before installation (rules differ between states), they’ll be delighted with the quality in their hands.

For areas that water is common, like pools, spas, and humid environments – our Industrial “Atomic” Bunker Lights are ideal. Common on the Australian market are “Marine grade steel”, “Brass” and finally “Die-cast Aluminium” are among materials that are commonly used in their construction.

Externally, wall lights with the appropriate IP certification can also be utilised for a variety of purposes on your home’s façade or throughout your outdoor spaces.

A Bunker Light at your front door or porch will welcome visitors. Outdoor lighting, such as up-down wall lights, can be used to highlight feature walls on your outside deck or to brighten both sides of your garage and driveway. A licensed electrician will be able to determine whether your chosen outdoor wall light is appropriate for your intended location.

Don’t go on a wild goose chase looking for quality industrial lighting – Barn Light is a boutique lighting manufacturer, sourcing Australian suppliers and artisans wherever possible for the highest quality materials and craftsmanship to produce light furnishings that are beautiful and functional — all made right here in Australia!

We’ve got small wall lights available as versatile indoor and outdoor lighting alternatives that bring flair to an area while also being entirely functional as industrial lights. These lights are available in a wide range of forms and styles, flush-mounted lights against a wall, and a variety of wall arms, sconce shapes, and shades in a variety of combinations.

No. We’ve named our Industrial Bunker Lights as “Atomic Industrial Lights” from the first day of the decade that we’ve been in business.

My (Managing Director) first interaction with this industrial lighting style was in and around the Kennedy Space Station (Florida, USA), which you might imagine had quite a few rockets being built. The need for a humidity resistant, sealed, non-sparking light brought forward the need to create our own tooling to compete with the bastardisation of the lighting style from overseas manufacturers. We’re not like them.

As a nod to its origins, whilst also showing that our outdoor bunker lights are highly durable builds of Aluminium and Australian Powder coat – We’ve renamed generic Bunker Lights as “Atomic” to differentiate between ours that can withstand the worst of Australia’s harsh environment, and those that simply cannot. – you’ll find our competitors consistently pushing their “knock-offs” at a cheaper price, however ultimately our Atomic Industrial Lighting will outlast, outperform, and stick around to be vintage all over again in the next few decades.

When installing near water or high humidity – you’d need to protect the globe from water, salt-spray (corrodes metal fast!), and sand/salt.

All of our Atomic Bunker Lights come with an option for clear (free) or frosted glass (costs extra), and three (free) different guards, these guards protect the glass.

For more benefits and advantages, see “What the difference between the Glass & Guards” on the right -> (or below)

A line of goosenecks along an interior wall creates a distinctive look in a café, while a singular gooseneck works to light up a cosy nook. Gooseneck lights also look great over bathroom vanities and rustic farmhouse-style kitchen sinks. Maybe your bathroom pendants need some protection and IP55 is required?

IP55 Atomic Upgrade Available

When Industrial Bunker Lights are concerned, our Atomic Range can be incorporated into all of our existing Warehouse Lighting styles, as an accessory. For ease of use, we haven’t added these lights to this category, however are all available from the respective “Product Styler Pages” as “Atomic Cast Guard” or where the product is marked as “IP55 Atomic Upgrade Available” Look for the logo shown to the left.

Our Atomic Upgrade can increase your IP-Rated Outdoor Light to IP55, enabling a more versatile installation environment

Why people love Industrial Wall Lights? – Chances are is that they’ve grown up with them, rarely had to see one repaired, and finally provide that finesse that shows rigidity, durability, permanence, and ultimately safety.

Historically, and in certain environments, Bunker Lights would be called “Explosion Proof Lighting” designed to be “vapour-proof” when used in underground environments or near hazardous vapours. These lights originated from their simple purpose as sealed “work lights” in challenging settings such as underground mines and nautical applications. You’d need to protect the glass, whilst also permitting the maximum light dispersal, thus the glass & guard were termed.

Assuming you mean the metals?

No. The wholesale cost of Copper (used in Brass manufacturing) vs. Aluminium, is typically 4x the cost. This means that for us to offer you a Brass alternative (and still remain profitable), we’d need to manufacture overseas or charge you 4-6x the cost of production and that’s not something we’re interested in.

Need more information? See the questions answered from a technical perspective across the way ->

Assuming you want a metallic or metallic with satin finish?

We’re working on a range of precious metallics that look like real metals, however coated in Australian-Made (and tested!) UV-Resistant clear coats. What will be the final result? We’re expecting a close-enough finish to the precious metals desired by the market. We haven’t been able to bring these finishes to the market until roughly September 2022 due to supply and costing reasons.

Firstly – Consider the materials, do you need a high performance marine styled powdercoat, or are you looking to install under your eaves (or protected space) around the house? Check our “Shop by Colour” for a list of quality outdoor specific coatings

Secondly – Consider the headroom and projection of the lights. Is someone likely to throw open that front screen door and damage the light, or likely to walk past with a cricket bat straight from school? This page provides a detailed description about our Gooseneck Lighting, our Atomic Lighting isn’t *that much* different, if you’ve got questions please feel free to contact us

Thirdly – Consider which guard and glass combination is right for you. If you don’t need the glass, you can choose to install it and consider the IP44 rating to be suitable for your usage. Our different Glass & Guards were discussed just above this discussion.

Here’s all the benefits of the respective supplied, free-of-charge – Glass & Guards.

Need a Higher IP rating on our IP44 Rated Lighting? Consider our IP55 Rated Atomic Accessory to use in water-prone areas. Ideal for exterior locations with minor watersplashing, or kids playing with the hose.

WE DON’T MANUFACTURE TO “IP67”

Why? Many reasons; however with a decade in the business;

You’ll find that *most* of the time, the person specifying has decided for the “best” rather than “what’s needed”.

Builders typically see the higher the IP rating, the higher the quality (and less building defects/issues) – not necessarily true but close enough.

Electricians see IP ratings as hard requirements for certain areas (ie. Showers/Pools etc) as it directly relates to how often they need to attempt to repair something if unsuitable since they will be underwriting the product to suit the environment it is installed to. Its their license “at risk” when dodgy stuff is supplied – Which is why they’d typically prefer to supply the product at their own cost.

Designers typically prefer not to know, unless strictly necessary – they’re looking for the nicest, most affordable (typically) lighting fixtures to make a house, your home. The technical jargon associated with IP Ratings, Exclusion Zones, Warranties, Replacements are all another factor to consider and the frequent changing, compromises, and budgeting all make their life difficult.

When people ask us “Can I buy an IP67 Light from you” – We’ll answer “No” and direct you to this page to explain it, and more importantly have you understand how Ingress Protection works – on Solids & Liquids.

Yes – The original testing matrix showed that we could adequately use a 100W Incandescent Lamp within an open enclosure (ie. No Glass Installed) otherwise a 60W Incandescent Lamp with Glass installed.

As Wattage (W) registers as two factors – Light Output (for Incandescent) and Power Usage, you can use any factor of CFL, HID, or LED (Preferred!) in these lights, even smart bulbs for the avoidance of doubt.

Yes – We’ve had production models of the CXA2520 LED Chipset in these models in the past, unfortunately they’ve been discontinued and we’re in the process of changing to a new LED style, ensuring this vintage industrial lighting style keeps up with the times.

The new variant of on-board LED technology with be CMU1516 – A very bright LED with minimal power usage (and heat!) than the prior models. The best benefit is the larger output of light, less wattage, and ultimately maintenance free! We’re looking to launch these towards the end of 2022 once supply lines re-open.

We’re finding that due to the associated costs, competing brands are selling “Brass” Lighting that is steel plated brass with a clear-coat (won’t last long outdoors) or else providing a brass enclosure on a steel base. Both of these styles will rust the moment that you get a touch of water under the substrate (technical term of metal’s coating) leaving you with ugly lines of brown rust on your home/building.

Stainless-Steel (Doesn’t Rust) vs. Carbon Steel (Rusts) of the same style – Stainless Steel can be at least 4x more expensive to manufacture from, and that’s just material supply. There is a reason coastal lights are very small when made from stainless steel.
