Here’s a quicklist of the most popular ones: Industrial, Queenslander, Hamptons

For installations in a kitchen, we’ve written this handy guide; “Get Kitchen Island Lighting Right“. If you’ve got questions please feel free to contact us. We purposely don’t provide lengths and sizes as the modular style of our shades (multiple sizes) makes each measurement incorrect.

Two major points –

  1. Install at eye level, or slightly above eye level based on the average height of your family, pendants are designed to provide some level of illumination whilst still facilitating a discussion with the main entertainer (or chef!) without blinding your guests

  2. Install with approximately 30cm (smaller shades) or 45cm (larger) in-between shades whilst leaving twice as much area before the end of the bench so people don’t walk into it.

ie. If you were installing two 40cm Original Barn Pendants to a 1.8m bench; you’d use roughly the same size space in between pendants (ie 40-50cm). Installing from centre on the bench you’d install at 450mm and 1350mm leaving 50mm in-between shades.

Yes. We supply a 12.5cm Ceiling Rose made from spun steel powdercoated in our standard Black Ace Finish. These ceiling roses are designed to be installed with the electrical recessed into your ceiling, providing a slimline yet functional design feature.

Do you have a smaller ceiling rose? We don’t currently however are available upon request. These would normally be 7cm in width, making installation a little tricky if you are replacing an existing light fitting or downlight – which is why we supply our “larger” standard ceiling canopy to cover those holes.

Certain products like our Decorative Ceiling Canopy can be purchased separately, however you won’t find these as part of the standard product listing(s).

Not Really. However when installing near water or high humidity – you’d likely want to protect the globe from water, salt-spray (corrodes metal fast!) for outdoor kitchens, and similar splashing from pools if installed outdoors.

All of our Atomic Upgrades (IP55) come with an option for clear (free) or frosted glass (costs extra), and three (free) different guards, these guards protect the glass.

For more benefits and advantages, see “What the difference between the Glass & Guards” on the right -> (or below)

Assuming you mean the metals?

No. The wholesale cost of Copper (used in Brass manufacturing) vs. Aluminium, is typically 4x the cost. This means that for us to offer you a Brass alternative (and still remain profitable), we’d need to manufacture overseas or charge you 4-6x the cost of production and that’s not something we’re interested in.

Need more information? See the questions answered from a technical perspective across the way ->

Assuming you want a metallic or metallic with satin finish?

We’re working on a range of precious metallics that look like real metals, however coated in Australian-Made (and tested!) UV-Resistant clear coats. What will be the final result? We’re expecting a close-enough finish to the precious metals desired by the market. We haven’t been able to bring these finishes to the market until roughly September 2022 due to supply and costing reasons.

Firstly –  Do you need a large drop from the ceiling? We offer a standard 1-meter length suitable for most installations, and the support to provide longer lengths if desired (on the product page)

Secondly – Consider the headroom and projection of the lights. Is someone likely to walk into the pendant (possibly) damaging the light or the bulb itself?

Thirdly – Does the bulb protrude too far from the socket? All of our standard Barn Pendants have recessed lampholders – so anything the size of a standard “A60 Light Bulb” won’t be seen at eye-level unless

You should know that adding a Cast Guard & Glass Combination drops the lampholder (and obviously the bulb) to be almost centred near the bottom of each  warehouse shade, leaving more light to disperse. Here’s all the benefits of the respective supplied, and charged – Glass & Guards.
CLEAR GLASS FROSTED GLASS (Costs a touch extra!)
  • Provides the BEST Lighting dispersal
  • Made from clear blown-glass, not plastics, not frosted
  • Features a “Barn Light” branding.
  • 100% Recyclable
  • Thick, and difficult to break. yet easy to replace where damaged..
  • Made from the exact same mold as our Clear Glass
  • Is sand-blasted in-house at Barn Light, enabling quick turn around times.
  • Provides a “Halo Effect” – Providing a visual focus of direction.
  • Ensures your design is “complete” by hiding ugly light bulbs behind the frosting.
  • Amplifies the colour quality of the bulb supplied – ie. Yellow, looks Yellow.
STANDARD CAST GUARD HEAVY DUTY-CAST GUARD NAUTICAL WIRE GUARD
  • Our most popular guard for home-owners
  • Provides a balance between protection/light dispersal
  • Made from Die-Cast Aluminium
  • Features three rings divided by four quarters
  • Comes with tamper proof screw (allen-key grub screw)
  • Our most popular guard for commercial use
  • Provides the best protection against vandalism
  • Made from a thicker Die-Cast Aluminium
  • Features two solid rings divided by four quarters
  • Comes with tamper proof screw
  • Designed for a purpose, typically used in bathrooms
  • Provides the most light dispersal of all the guards
  • Made from die-cast steel and 8g (4mm) steel wire
  • Features three rings divided by four quarters
  • Easy removal for maintenance crews.

Our Standard Range of Outdoor Barn Pendants (all without “ATOM” or “CGG” in the product code) are IP44 Outdoor Rated where “Standard Black Cord” is selected (default)

If you’re installing lights in an area that is subject to severe weather conditions, choose from our range of powdercoat colours to ensure an enduring finish for all weather types. Secondly, we provide our products with all the necessary seals and gaskets. You won’t need anything more than silicon (and the sparkie!)

Our Atomic Upgrade Available Lighting is rated for outdoor use to a minimum of IP55 when installed by a licensed electrician, and following our installation guides. Ideal for exterior locations with minor water-splashing, or kids playing with the hose.

WE DON’T MANUFACTURE TO “IP67”

Why? Many reasons; however with a decade in the business;

You’ll find that *most* of the time, the person specifying has decided for the “best” rather than “what’s needed”.

Builders typically see the higher the IP rating, the higher the quality (and less building defects/issues) – not necessarily true but close enough.

Electricians see IP ratings as hard requirements for certain areas (ie. Showers/Pools etc) as it directly relates to how often they need to attempt to repair something if unsuitable since they will be underwriting the product to suit the environment it is installed to. Its their license “at risk” when dodgy stuff is supplied – Which is why they’d typically prefer to supply the product at their own cost.

Designers typically prefer not to know, unless strictly necessary – they’re looking for the nicest, most affordable (typically) lighting fixtures to make a house, your home. The technical jargon associated with IP Ratings, Exclusion Zones, Warranties, Replacements are all another factor to consider and the frequent changing, compromises, and budgeting all make their life difficult.

When people ask us “Can I buy an IP67 Light from you” – We’ll answer “No” and direct you to this page to explain it, and more importantly have you understand how Ingress Protection works – on Solids & Liquids.

When installing outdoors, under pergolas for example – The ceiling should be “dry” and at most humid in the Northern States.

For the avoidance of doubt, yes these ceiling roses are designed as “Indoor Only” – An unfortunate necessity to ensure instructions dictate a dry ceiling installation and not one near a water source/gutter/wet location.

Our supplied ceiling canopy has been designed to be affixed to a “Dry Ceiling” or otherwise known as a “Dry Location” – We expect that when electrical has been terminated, our supplied ceiling rose will cover the electrical leaving only the shade and suspension cord shown to the average person. Thus the “Indoor Only” sticker.

The pendant you purchase, assuming only with Standard White or Standard Black PVC Cord (Default Option/Supply) – Are IP44 Rated where water originates from above the pendant (ie. the Sky), for IP55 installations, the same applies with an expectation of a directed water-source against the enclosure (garden hose).

Yes – The original testing matrix showed that we could adequately use a 100W Incandescent Lamp within an open enclosure (ie. No Glass Installed) otherwise a 60W Incandescent Lamp with Glass installed.

As Wattage (W) registers as two factors – Light Output (for Incandescent) and Power Usage, you can use any factor of CFL, HID, or LED (Preferred!) in these lights, even smart bulbs for the avoidance of doubt.

We don’t recommend using incandescent bulbs with any of our lighting, especially those with “Cloth Cord” or “Braided Cloth Cords” – Whilst these materials are actually polyester, the heat variable makes it prone to eventually disintegrating. If you intend to use a modern-day LED, or even older CFL – you won’t have any issues!

Yes – We’ve had production models of the CXA2520 LED Chipset in these models in the past, unfortunately they’ve been discontinued and we’re in the process of changing to a new LED style, ensuring this vintage industrial lighting style keeps up with the times.

The new variant of on-board LED technology with be CMU1516 – A very bright LED with minimal power usage (and heat!) than the prior models. The best benefit is the larger output of light, less wattage, and ultimately maintenance free! We’re looking to launch these towards the end of 2022 once supply lines re-open.

We’re finding that due to the associated costs, competing brands are selling “Brass” Lighting that is steel plated brass with a clear-coat (won’t last long outdoors) or else providing a brass enclosure on a steel base. Both of these styles will rust the moment that you get a touch of water under the substrate (technical term of metal’s coating) leaving you with ugly lines of brown rust on your home/building.

Stainless-Steel (Doesn’t Rust) vs. Carbon Steel (Rusts) of the same style – Stainless Steel can be at least 4x more expensive to manufacture from, and that’s just material supply. There is a reason coastal lights are very small when made from stainless steel.

Unfortunately, No – We cannot install a “Pendant Light Cord with 3-Pin Wall Plug” onto your new light. Our Electrical License doesn’t cover the “Luminaire Portable Type” that you seek.

What can we do? Provide “Fixed Luminaires” to be installed by a licensed electrician since our lighting is technically “High Risk (Level 3) like every other lighting store is likely to be.
