Outdoor Gooseneck Barn Lights

Outdoors, a gooseneck creates distance from the wall, and the right shade will enable you to highlight features of your choice, be they a path, steps, a sign or artistic feature. We have three main points – Material / Projection / Accessories (IP Rating)

Firstly – Consider the materials, do you need a high performance marine styled powdercoat, or are you looking to install under your eaves (or protected space) around the house? Secondly – Consider the headroom and projection of the lights. Is someone likely to throw open that front screen door and damage the light, or likely to walk past with a cricket bat straight from school? Want to know how projection works? Thirdly – Consider which guard and glass combination is right for you. If you don’t need the glass, you can choose to install it and consider the IP44 rating to be suitable for your usage. Our different Glass & Guards were discussed just above this discussion.

Lastly – The arm’s elegant curves add a retro aesthetic to your classic or modern décor and are built to last in all outdoor conditions. Indoors, a gooseneck can be used to illuminate art on walls or in cabinets or to add extra light in soft focus to a kitchen bench or office workstation. Just because you see a picture of the product doesn’t mean it can’t be altered to fit your specific requirements. After, all Barn Light is a manufacturer, not an importer so create something you want to install, not just what we’ve got on the shelf!

A wall light at your front door or porch will welcome visitors. Outdoor lighting, such as our standard goosenecks can be used to highlight feature walls on your outside deck or to brighten both sides of your garage and driveway. A trained electrician will be able to determine whether your chosen outdoor wall light is appropriate for your intended location. 

A line of goosenecks along an interior wall creates a distinctive look in a café, while a singular gooseneck works to light up a cosy nook. Gooseneck lights also look great over bathroom vanities and rustic farmhouse-style kitchen sinks.

How far should a light project off my wall?

In which direction do you want your light to shine? Barn Lights are customisable to fit light to arm, so you can choose a combination for exactly the function you need, while, of course, being an eye-catching feature in itself!

We generally suggest that warehouse shades larger than

• Upto 35cm~40cm – Use our SG16 Sconce Gooseneck Arm
• Over 40cm ~ Use our G15 Gooseneck Arm. 

Why these two gooseneck arms? Frankly it comes down to adequate proportions. Anything too small with a large shade looks “cheap & tacky” per our designers, and anything small on a large gooseneck looks “comical and unnecessary”. Now if you design for a purpose, you can safely ignore the experts ;)

Our lighting is rated for outdoor use to a minimum of IP44. 

If you’re installing lights in an area that is subject to severe weather conditions, choose from our range of powdercoat colours to ensure an enduring finish for all weather types. Secondly, we provide our products with all the necessary seals and gaskets. You won’t need anything more than silicon (and the sparkie!)
