We’re available to assist you in your lighting selection, and you’ll be talking to a real person, (not a chatbot).
Yes – We have been developing our lighting for years and it is ready to integrate with any sensor on the market today. Your electrician, or related professional will work closely with you to determine which solution best suits your needs, but don’t worry: to put it simply, buying a Barn Light is the easy part of your lighting plan.
The types of sensors available on the market today are microwave (movement), lux meters (during dusk-to dawn periods), and PIR Sensors for night (heat sensor). The best solution for you will depend upon your local conditions, thus supplying a motion sensor isn’t under the purview of the lighting products we provide.Â
For example: If you live in an area with nocturnal life, you wouldn’t want to install a motion sensor in your backyard covering a large amount of area. For similar reasons, you wouldn’t want a heat sensor covering the sunset as stone holds heat for a long period of time. Some video cameras these days now have a “pre-determined scope” or area of control to focus on, ignoring all else such as a driveway, ignoring the surrounds.
As every Barn Light is unique, every projection depends on a variety of factors.
We’ve written a “how to” article to make measurement easier for designers and specifiers with a quick array of mounting arms to assist you with making sure everything fits nicely in your new space.
The Backing Plate itself.
Our Die-Cast Wall Backing Plate [WBP-25mm / WBP-20mm] is 120mm in diameter and adds 30mm to your Wall Projections. The mounting screws are 89mm apart (Left/Right) across from each other or 45mm from the Centre Point. You can opt to install your wall backing plate on a 90° Angle in order to affix to 100mm square posts (for example).
LED? (LMH Only!) If you’ve got a commercial LED Chipset as part of your new Barn Light, see our Heavy Duty Wall Backing Plate for additional information.
Adaptor Bracket
We provide a universal “Adaptor Bracket” that allows you to affix this bracket to your structure using any of your typical fixings (think Timber Screws/Concrete/Masonry Fixings), then affixing your Wall Backing Plate using our supplied 2x 8-32 x3/4″ (M4 sized) Pan Phillips Screws into said Adaptor Bracket.
Waterproofing GasketÂ
We supply an Australian Made closed cell (waterproofing) gasket designed to fit between your Adaptor Bracket & Wall Backing Plate.
Grub Screws
Two Steel Black (or Silver) Zinc Plated Grub Screws (5/16″ x 3/8″) are supplied to hold your gooseneck in position requiring a 4mm Allen/Hex (not included) tools to clamp in place.
Neoprene Gasket
A synthetic rubber O-Ring is supplied to butt against the internal 25mm Entry (nominally larger due to die-casting) and the 25mm Aluminium Gooseneck Arm (Straight Arm, Sconce, or otherwise).
Recyclable Packaging?
Yup, everything is then packaged into a brown or white paper bag and marked with your colour, size, installation instructions, and any applicable warnings
From July 1st 2021 – We partnered with vintageled.com.au to supply us all LED Edison style Light bulbs – Ironically, their factory is around the corner from our own factory so while we currently sell a small range of vintage LED bulbs we do have the full range available to you.
You can find our offering on the individual product pages, otherwise if you’d rather select a different bulb visit vintageled.com.au, find your bulb and we can add this to your existing Barn Light order. Simply send us a message and we’ll take care of the ordering and freight.
All Barn Light Lighting takes a common “E27 / Edison Screw / ES / Screw Bulb” that you’ll find at your local hardware, or grocery store.
Yup – We use a ceramic Edison Screw (E27) Lampholder.
What’s Better? Ceramic?!
Our ceramic/porcelain Lamp holders are simply designed to take as much heat as possible (Yes, We build better lighting than our competitors) without effecting the mounting / electrical cabling. Our outdoor wall lighting is based on decades old, reliable, vintage engineering.Â
Standard Outdoor Barn Lights – 100W
If you select the “default” arrangement which is simply marked as “Edison Screw Lampholder (No Bulbs Supplied)” – You’ll have the ability to install a 100W Bulb.
Atomic Barn Lighting – 60W
If you select an Accessory such as “Atomic Cast Guard” – When installed with Glass, you’ll be limited to 100W as the sealed glass enclosure becomes a literal heat-trap. You can opt to NOT install the glass at your discretion however Atomic “Fully Integrated LEDs” (Custom Commercial Only) require the installation of glass at all times.
What you *may* want to know if considering purchasing elsewhereÂ
Our competitors will be supplying you with a thermo-plastic lampholder which gets brittle & cracks over time, with a maximum of 60W being typical (also.. not organic / not recyclable). Need to light up an area? Nope – You’ll now need to install spotlights to find your car in Winter.
What’s.. a Watt?
Back in the olden days of Edison, Tesla & General Electric the creation of tungsten filaments began to light up the world – Simply put, the higher the wattage usage (electricity) the brighter the light. The usage of “Watts” was quite literally a measurement of heat generated since voltages were common (220Volts) and the only element that changed was the amount of electricity drawn. Obviously… Draw too much electricity and things either start to melt, explode, or otherwise provide some dangerous entertainment. So limits were decided upon. That measurement was the basis to how electricity has been integrated with the lighting market ever since. These “modern” days, we use “Lumens” (L) and “Lumens per Watt” (lm/W) to rate lighting output and electricity usage.Â
Smart Bulbs – When you need a kaleidoscope of colour.
Yes, our lighting is fully compatible however we suggest that you try one bulb in the most furthest away location from your wireless signal. We manufacture with Aluminium, and you’ll likely install your new Barn Lights onto Brick or Concrete walls. Neither of these materials are ideal for wireless signals to penetrate through so tread cautiously.
Yup – We hear you, this is sounding too good to be true for a lighting company.
Frankly (the short answer is “Yes”), we could write a page about this – so we did.. -> Are Barn Lights Dimmable?
For Entryway and Porch Lighting, our Industrial Wall Light range would typically be better suited for smaller passages. Older homes typically have newer exterior decking which drops the installation point from 1.8m to any deviation, causing issues obtaining replacement lighting. If you need a SMALLER sized lighting fixture, our SG16 Sconce Gooseneck Arm is highly recommended for smaller shades (especially <30cm).
The standard installation point for these areas is typically 1.8m AFFL (Above Finished Floor Level) for older federation/Queenslander homes. Newer/Modern Homes typically 1.8m~2.1m AFFL based on the purpose of the light.Â
It’s a visual thing and there’s no rule book that says you HAVE to hang it at a certain height. Have fun with it ~Â
Our PG12 Petite Arm (20mm) or SG16 Sconce Arms (25mm) are designed with you in mind.
Add 1/2 of the smallest shade diameter of The Frontier Dual Arm Sign Light to the Gooseneck Arm’s to get an overall projection.
PG12 = 30cm Projection
SG16 = 37cm Projection
This is what Barn Lights were made for. You want a large statement piece that throws light where its needed.Â
We recommend the G15 Gooseneck Arm for areas with walkways underneath, or our G22 Gooseneck Arm where you’ve got both height and projection available to you (probably a new build?)
G15 Gooseneck Arm = 47cm Projection
G22 Gooseneck Arm = 57cm Projection
Both goosenecks are bent the same, however our G22 Gooseneck Arm has a longer “tail” leading to the wall.
Smaller Mounting Arms | Projection | Drop from Mounting Point |
PG12 Petite Gooseneck (20mm) | 30cm | 15cm |
SG16 Gooseneck (25cmm) | 37cm | 18cm |
Larger Mounting Arms | Projection | Drop (From Mounting Point) |
G8 Curved Gooseneck | 63cm | 18cm |
G14 Straight Arm | 35cm | Not Applicable |
G15 Gooseneck | 47cm | 20cm |
G22 Gooseneck | 57cm | 20cm |
