Standard IP44: The base model provides an excellent outdoor rating, perfectly suited for general exterior lighting and indoor applications. Mounted on an authentic straight arm, it delivers a large, wide lighting dispersal exactly where it’s needed.
IP55 Caged Upgrade: Need maximum strength? Upgrade to the Hobart Caged Factory Wall Light. Boasting an IP55 rating, this fortified enclosure withstands the elements no matter how challenging your environment, adding an extra layer of heavy-duty industrial flair while ensuring you’re never left in the dark.
You’ve seen it everywhere, yet nowhere these days. Does it look like a classic billiard table light mounted on a straight arm? Correct. Does it look like a vintage railway light you’d spot along heritage railway yards? Also correct.
The Hobart is the best of both worlds. If you are looking for a shallow bowl light to create a well-lit, dispersed outdoor area without staring into a glaring bulb, this is your solution. Whether it is mounted on brick pillars, styling a bespoke “hipster” craft brewery, or keeping the locals whisper-quiet in the evening, the Hobart creates that earthly, homely effect your space has been missing. It leaves out all the unattractive parts found in other lighting models, featuring a simple “hard neck banding” that creates a seamless visual effect from all angles.
Why “The Hobart”? It was once simply named “The Classic”—admittedly a classic design, but not very descriptive. Over the phone, our customers made it all too easy to call it “The Asian Hat,” “The Rice Paddy,” or “The Other Witches’ Hat” (that title belongs to the Astro).
After discussing the re-release of this shade design, we settled on “Hobart,” but we wanted a true reason for the name. Historically, our metalspinners referred to this shade mold as “The Regatta”—a nod to the iconic Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The shade perfectly replicates the sweeping shade sails from a time when the famous race was still won in wooden ships. In fact, “The Regatta” shade mold is officially older than every single employee that works here at Barn Light!
Available in a robust range of powder-coated colours, you can customize the Hobart to perfectly complement your preferred hue. Every shade is hand-spun in our Carrum Downs workshop — shaped on a lathe, not pressed in a die. We work in aluminium for three reasons:

Our ability as a manufacturer is to supply you with options, far exceeding your local lighting store. Have you purchased a wall light, and would have loved it to be a pendant instead, or decided it was too big on first impressions and needed to downsize? We can offer you this service, and a touch more. We offer no charge to down-size the shade, however charge the cost of the difference (ie $20) plus freight incurred by us as a courtesy.
