• The Flush Mount: The perfect solution for high-wind areas or low ceilings where a stem mount isn’t practical. It provides extra usable height while maintaining that “modern-classic” visual flow, making it ideal for porches, bedrooms, and transit zones.

The Old Dixie is now available in three distinct sizes to perfectly scale with your project:

• The 28cm Shade (The “Nook” Specialist): Our most compact Dixie. It’s the ideal choice for “tight” architectural spots- think narrow powder rooms, laundry nooks, or as a repetitive “run” of lights down a skinny hallway.

• The 33cm Shade (The Versatile All-Rounder): A balanced “mid-size” that works exceptionally well as a porch light or for standard-sized bedrooms and entryways.

• The 43cm Shade (The Statement Maker): A bold, commanding fixture designed for high ceilings and expansive areas – perfect for hanging over pool tables or as the primary light source in large open-plan living spaces.

Australian Craftsmanship & Weather Protection

Every Old Dixie is handcrafted in Australia using the finest commercial-grade materials.

• Standard IP44 Rating: This fixture is splash-proof as standard, making it a reliable choice for bathrooms and protected outdoor dining areas.

• The IP55 Upgrade: For installations in more exposed environments—such as coastal porches or areas prone to high winds and dust—we offer an IP55 Upgrade. This surcharge-based option adds the specialized cast and protective glass assembly required for maximum durability.

Materials & craft

Every shade is hand-spun in our Carrum Downs workshop — shaped on a lathe, not pressed in a die. We work in aluminium for three reasons:

• It’s light. A spun-aluminium shade weighs a fraction of a steel equivalent, easier to ship and mount, with less load on brackets, arms, and ceiling roses.
• It doesn’t corrode. Steel rusts. Aluminium doesn’t — even in coastal salt or humid climates. Powdercoat seals it; the underlying metal stays sound for the long haul.
• It takes more skill to spin. Aluminium is softer and less forgiving than steel, so a clean shade silhouette is a craft outcome, not a stamping outcome. Every shade passes through a spinner’s hands before it reaches yours.
