Outdoor Ceiling Lights

A flush (close-to-ceiling) light hugs the ceiling with minimal drop — the choice for low verandas, stairwells and anywhere headroom is tight. A stem-mounted ceiling light hangs the same shade on a rigid pipe stem, dropping it into the space for more presence and a wider light spread, without the swing of a cord or chain. The stem is the underrated option for outdoor ceilings: because it's rigid, it holds position in wind and under ceiling fans where a hung pendant would move, and it reads unmistakably industrial. Within this collection you'll find both mounts across our farmhouse, industrial and dome shade families, all Australian-made and powder-coated to order. The practical decision is ceiling height: below about 2.4 m go flush; above that, a stem gives better proportions. Either way the lamping is a standard E27 globe and installation is a routine job for your electrician.

Pick by headroom first, weather exposure second. On a typical veranda where people walk beneath the light, a flush ceiling light keeps the shade safely above head height while still throwing a broad, even pool — one fitting per doorway or every few metres along a walkway is a good rhythm. If the ceiling is generous — a high porch, carport or entry portico — a stem-mounted shade drops the light closer to where you need it and looks far more considered than a bare batten fix. All the fittings in this collection are outdoor-rated, and the IP55 options are sealed for positions where rain can drive in under the roofline. Match the shade colour to your gutters or trim for the tied-together look, or run the same shade family as your wall lights — the ranges share shades precisely so a veranda can be lit as one composition rather than a collection of odd fittings.

The whole collection is built from aluminium with a baked powder-coat finish — the right starting point for salt air, since aluminium doesn't rust and powder coat seals the metal far better than paint. For genuinely exposed coastal positions, choose the IP55-rated fittings within the collection: they're sealed against dust and water jets, which is what matters when a southerly drives rain and spray up under a veranda roof. The distinction is honest rather than marketing: a sheltered beach-suburb porch is fine with any fitting here, while a surf-front deck deserves the sealed ones. Coastal longevity then comes down to one habit — an occasional freshwater rinse to stop salt sitting on the finish, the same treatment you give aluminium window frames. Every fitting in the collection takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) globe on 230 V/50 Hz mains — no transformers, drivers or sealed LED modules. That standard fitting is a durability decision: LED technology improves every few years, and an E27 fitting lets you upgrade globes indefinitely while the powder-coated hardware carries on. For outdoor ceilings we recommend warm-white LED — 2200–2700 K — which flatters timber, brick and powder-coat colours alike; filament-style LEDs look particularly right under a dome or deep-bowl shade viewed from below. Judge brightness in lumens, not watts — lumens are the actual measure of light output: around 800–1,300 lumens per fitting covers most veranda and porch duties, with more over work areas like outdoor kitchens. If you want dimming, choose dimmable globes and have your electrician fit an LED-compatible dimmer. Globe changes are tool-free — twist out, twist in — so maintenance never involves the wiring.
